‘HBCU Alumni and I Love R&B Weekend’ kicks off on Thursday 23 July and will feature a series of events designed to bring together HBCU alumni, professionals, music lovers and the local community.
“This weekend is about bringing people together,” said the event organisers in a press release. “Whether you’re an HBCU graduate, an R&B fan or simply looking for an unforgettable weekend, we’ve created experiences that celebrate music, culture, friendship and the beauty of Caymankind.”
HBCU – ‘Historically Black Colleges and Universities’ – is an organisation that has a mission to create “world-class destinations that honour its culture while fostering meaningful connections across generations, industries and communities,” the organisation’s Cayman Islands website states.
Welcome party
The weekend officially begins at Bliss Lounge with the ‘HBCU Alumni Welcome Party’ on Thursday, 23 July and runs from 9pm to 2am.
Hosts include Poet Lynae Vanee and AJ Andrews of MLB Network, with music curated by DJ Shizm from Tampa’s 106.5 The Beat. Admission is free before 11pm with a RSVP at caymanhbcuweekend.com.
Beachside and rodeo events
Friday begins with a relaxing ‘Beachside Mix & Mingle’ at Bonny Moon Beach Club. The organisers said that guests can “network, reconnect and enjoy great music, food, cocktails and the stunning beachfront views in a casual yet sophisticated atmosphere”. Admission is free and the event runs from 10am to 3pm.
There will also be an ‘In the basement’ event at The Wharf from 9pm to 2am.
A white party
An ‘R&B Dinner en Blanc & After Party’ will be held at Bacaro on Saturday, 25 July with music by Teek La Freak and DJ La Luna.
Tickets are $100 for a four-course dinner with welcome drink, and the event will run from 7pm to 12am with the after party taking place on the lawn starting at 9pm.
