The US Geological Survey reported a
4.7 magnitude earthquake 35 miles off Cayman in the early hours of Friday
morning.
The quake, which occurred at a
depth of 6.2 miles, was recorded at 1.16am Friday morning.
According to Hazard Management
Cayman Islands, the local organisation that deals with disasters, 911 received
no reports of injuries or damage to structures.
No tsunami warning has been issued.
“Earthquakes do occur from time to
time in the vicinity of the Cayman Islands as we are located near to the
boundary of the North American plate, with the Caribbean plate sliding past to
the south,” said Simon Boxall of Hazard Management Cayman Islands.
