Canada Post has announced that,
with effect from 15 November, it will not accept any postal items weighing more
than 16 ounces for transit through the United States.
Canada Post’s restrictions come in
the wake of similar US Postal Service measures, in the wake of recent terror
threats to air traffic and heightened security measures put in place by the
United States Department of Homeland Security.
These measures require Cayman
Islands Postal Service counter staff to inspect all items weighing more than a
pound. In addition, each piece of mail weighing 16 ounces or more is also
required to have a return address.
