Silence can be golden

Before you start ridding the Island, just a quick story to share with Lorenzo Berry before we’re all gone.

Late in the ’70s I was a 15-year-old kid in the ninth grade going to a private Catholic school in Canada. My science teacher at that time was a man named Mr. Soo. Yes, a Chinese person living and teaching in Canada. How dare he be there, along with all the other East Indians, Japanese, British and pretty much the rest of the world. The nerve.

Anyways, being the class clown for the most part usually brought out a very wise saying from Mr. Soo, every other day directed to me. I’ll never forget it as I heard it quite often and it went like this. ‘Mr Lucas, if you didn’t open your mouth, people wouldn’t know how ignorant you really are.’

I was a kid having fun in school. What’s your excuse Mr. Berry?
