Teen leadership conference slated

FirstCaribbean assists Kiwanis youth programme

Reecognizing that today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, FirstCaribbean International Bank has lent its support to the first-ever Kiwanis Key Leader event for teenage youth in the Cayman Islands.

To be held at St. Ignatius Catholic School from the 21-23 September, Key Leader aims to positively influence teens by fostering their leadership skills in the local, national and global communities, stated a press release.

The weekend retreat emphasizes development of community service; the personal pursuit of excellence and integrity; respect for self and others; and overall growth in mind, body and spirit.

‘As a major employer and a leader in the provision of financial services in the Cayman Islands, FirstCaribbean is very pleased to make this contribution to the Kiwanis club to assist them host the upcoming Key Leaders event,’ said Al Aaron, Head of Credit and Service Quality with FirstCaribbean.

‘We consider the event to be a very important initiative which will help with shaping the minds of our young men and women and future leaders at a very early stage.’

At a cost of CI$150 per attendee, the bank’s support enables teens – some of whom may not be able to afford the fee – attend the Key Leader event.

Paul de Freitas, President of the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman commented, ‘We are pleased that FirstCaribbean recognizes the importance of a programme such as Key Leader and its emphasis in developing the personal growth of today’s young people.

‘The FirstCaribbean donation will ensure that a number of our Cayman teens undergo this life-changing experience without the costs normally associated with a programme of this kind.’

The Key Leader event welcomes up to 80 teens in the Cayman Islands, with a few participants from Florida also slated to attend the weekend programme.
