He has been some what quiet for some time and now the Leader of the Opposition has lashed out at a number of things.
Obviously this is the talking point in our homes and at the bars.
The Leader of the Opposition has been reported to say ‘I have had numerous reports and complaints of victimization of senior civil servants by members of the government,’ and ‘some Government employees were in fear for their jobs’.
The consensus amongst a lot of people I know is that first, we accept that in every nation there is some form of corruption or bad practice within the Civil Service; secondly we accept that in such a small nation as the Cayman Islands, any form of corruption or bad practice has a greater impact on the nation than any larger nation.
The people in the Cayman Islands can vote for a Government to run the country but cannot vote for the civil servants who have the real control of the country. Senior civil servants who may be victimized should take a long look at them selves and ask the question ‘am I doing a good job for the benefit of the country or for the benefit of myself and my friends’
As for some Government employees being in fear for their jobs the consensus I am picking up is that the lower graded civil servants are the ones in fear for their jobs not the senior civil servants who may be the cause of that alleged fear, and from what I am hearing the fear is a fact of working life for some.
It’s always good to have a loud opposition in a democratic nation, but please don’t go head on in because of some complaints. Maybe the time is right to shake up the senior civil servants and department heads.
