Drama Club works on latest project

The John Gray High School Drama Club is working on its latest project, The Crucifixion,

Despite what the name may imply, this is not a religious play.

The title is a metaphor for the emotional torment the character faces in the play, which is not entertainment but a teaching tool, dealing with the serious subject of rape. In the play, the main character gets raped and is blamed by her friends and family for what happened as most young girls are. It is due to come to the stage at the end of March for the International Women’s Day festival.

Plans are for it to tour to each district.

The Drama Club mainly seeks to marry theatre and drama with cultural development.

The club has done dialect poems and monologues providing cultural entertainment and they do games to increase creativity as well as provide short performance pieces for community events.

Famous graduates of the Drama Club include Elizabeth Hennings, who has just formed her own filming company; Gemma McLaughlin, former Ms Cayman; Luigi Moxam, owner of 345 Clothing Line; and Frank E. Flowers, the director of Damien ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley’s latest video Road to Zion as well as the film Haven, starring Orlando Bloom, set here in the Cayman Islands.

At the end of the year, some members of the Drama Club are picked based on dedication to the club, performance, and class work, to take a trip to New York for eight days, to watch and review Broadway shows.
