Attending a recent reception at the Governor’s House were athletes Andrew Smiley and Leonardo Bodden, National Director Kim Landry, SOCI’s Chairman Shari Bovell and Board members Nadine Rowe, David Downes, Maxine Everson and Liz Smith.
One highlight of the discussion was the upcoming 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Shanghai, China next October. Both athletes present were long time participants and looked forward to competing again. Says Bodden: ‘I play a lot of the sports but Bocce is my favourite’, describing aspects of the game that most intrigued him.
The Governor said that he looked forward to seeing this game in action, requesting of Board members to keep him informed of local events.
Prior to accepting the patronage, His Excellency The Governor presented awards to Aquatics competitors at SOCI’s National Games and attended the closing ceremony of the Week of Awareness, both held in June this year.
