The Lions Club of Tropical Gardens Breast Cancer Awareness month is in full swing and the next major fund raising event is the Brenda Tibbetts-Lund Memorial 5k Walk/Run, which is scheduled for Saturday October 21st. The route is from the Seven Mile Public Beach to the Yacht Club and back to the Public Beach. The walk will begin at 6am and the run at 6:30am.
Early registration will be available on Thursday and Friday October 19th and 20th at the Women’s Resource Centre from 10am to 4pm each day. Happy Hour registration will be available on Friday October 20th at Rackham’s and The Wharf on North Church Street and at Fidel Murphy’s in Queen’s Court from 5pm to 7pm.
Registration will also be available on the day of the event starting at 5:30am at the Public Beach. The entry fee is $15 and the first 500 to register will receive an event T-shirt. The walk will begin at 6am and the run at 6:30am. Anyone who would like to complete a registration form before these dates can request a form by emailing [email protected] or [email protected]. All participants will be eligible for spot prizes and the winners in each division (male and female) will receive a trophy.
One of the walk/run’s regular participants, Mr Nick Smith, will be walking the three mile/ 5k course backwards, to help raise funds for the club’s breast cancer awareness programme. Anyone who cannot participate in the walk/run can sponsor Mr Smith because the club will benefit from all proceeds that are raised by his contribution. The club is ecstatic by Mr Smith’s offer to raise funds by walking the course backward.
