Barkers expands

A land acquisition in West Bay has expanded the size of Barkers National Park – the country’s first national park.

Leader of Government Business and Minister of Tourism McKeeva Bush recently accepted three pieces of land, totalling 216.4 acres in a land transfer agreement between the government and the Dart Group of companies, says a Government press release.

‘Barker’s National Park is a project for all of Cayman to enjoy and this land will add to it,’ Minister Bush said.

Construction on the park’s recreational areas including cabanas and washrooms will begin shortly.

John Papesh, Vice President of Marketing and Public Affairs for the Dart Group, commended officials for their efforts to further the project.

‘Dart Group has developed several outstanding public parks across the island and we are pleased to be part of the development of the first national park. It is one of the untouched areas on Grand Cayman and will be preserved as a tranquil and rustic setting to be enjoyed by tourists and locals alike,’ he said.
