On Friday, 3 June, George Town’s Cardinal Avenue will be transformed into ‘girl power with a purpose,’ say the organisers of the upcoming ‘Girl Power’ show.
The live concert, which looks set to become an annual happening to help local charities, will this year feature Soca star Destra as the headline act.
According to the organisers, the Trinidadian talent will grace the stage in a 45-minute set to sing her popular hits including Bonnie and Clyde, Carnival, Fly, Come Beta, Up In the Air and Love Somebody.
Those familiar with Destra’s style know they are probably in for a high-energy performance, designed to get the audience jumpin’ and wavin’.
Also sharing the limelight will be fellow T&T singer Jungle, best known for his monster hit Wine like an Animal.
Local girl band Heat, victors of the Cable and Wireless/Batabano Song Competition will kick off the show and get the crowd in the by singing their winning song Girls.
The ‘Girl Power,’ show, which will block off one of the capital’s busiest thoroughfares, will this year promote the work of the islands’ first-ever women’s shelter, the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre.
As well as putting on music, the show aims to raise public awareness and help reduce crimes against women locally such as rape and domestic violence.
Gates will open at 9pm and the party will go on until 2am.
As of the main sponsors of the event is Style FM, the station’s listeners will have the chance to win tickets to the show.
