Cayman wins toss

After a rain delayed start to their latest three-day game in the ICC Intercontinental Cup in Toronto, Cayman’s cricket team won the toss and put hosts Canada in to bat. Skipper Ryan Bovell and Franklin Hinds, according to an ICC report, used the new ball to keep the Canadian top order in check.

And when Troy Taylor joined the attack the pressure stayed on and Canada slumped to 83 for four.

But just as in their game against Bermuda, the Caymanians hit a block in the middle order batting.

First there was a 69 run partnership between Sunil Dhaniram (37) and Nicholas Ifill and this was followed by a 63 run partnership with Umar Bhatti (20).

Ifill went on to make 83 and after Don Maxwell was out for a score of 114, which included eight fours and three sixes, Canada declared on 340 for nine.

Bovell, with three for 63, was the pick of Cayman’s bowlers.

When Canada took the field there was only 16 minutes to close of play but in that time Umar Bhatti managed to trap opener Hall for a duck.

At the close of play on day one, Cayman, on five for one, trailed Canada by 335 with nine wickets in hand.
