New CD a hint of Cayman Islands hits

A local ‘Cayman’ hit song?

Is there such a thing? The answer is yes!

With today’s flood of local radio stations all competing for the advertising dollars and most rotating top 40 hits from abroad it’s hard to imagine that local music ever had a place on the local hit parade.

Let’s go back in time, a few decades ago when the island only had one radio station and juke boxes spun 45 RPM vinyls.

When Edward Patterson would drive through Georgetown blasting music from the speakers attached to his roof and mini-skirt contests were hot weekend events.

If you can remember that bit of nostalgia you can remember songs like Minni Skirt from the Tornados or Donnie by the Humble and the Meek.

If we move up a few years there were even some local smash-hits, catchy songs that we all knew the words to.

Pirates Party by the Tradewinds and do you remember Ching Ching by The Barefoot Man?

Let’s not forget two times winner of the Pirates Week Song Fest ‘Jah-Mitch’ with his Search The Town.

All these songs and more are now on a new compilation CD titled Hit Songs from the Cayman Islands produced and released by Sean Hennings ( HI Tide fame ) and Garden Studios.

The 12 song collection also features Mel McCoy’s popular Really getting Down and of course several cuts from Hi Tide, songs that have become audience favourites like Love You More and Our Blues.

The CD is available at local retail outlets and also at Sean’s new CD shop in the Bay Harbor Plaza.

Da Music Many CD shop sells mainly Caribbean flavoured CDs placing much emphasis on local music.

The local recording artists featured on the new CD are always looking for support from local Radio Stations.

This CD is a great souvenir item and something to keep in mind as a Christmas gift for friends and family abroad.
