Mark Bastis in serious but stable condition

Former General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Resort Grand Cayman and former Cayman Islands Tourism Association President Mark Bastis has gone from a critical to serious but stable condition following a motorbike accident in Monterery, California.

Mr. Bastis had just moved to Monterey California with his family earlier this summer following four years of work and active tourism involvement in Grand Cayman.

According to another former past President of CITA, Rod McDowall of Red Sail Sports, he had spoken to Mr. Bastis by telephone Tuesday and he was in good humour. ‘Despite his unfortunate plight he was in good spirits,’ he said.

Mr. Bastis is believed to be suffering from a fractured skull and also has leg and arm injuries.

He has undergone surgery and it was expected that he would be in the intensive care unit for quite a while and would have to undergo extensive rehabilitation following the accident.

It is believed the accident happened when Mr. Bastis swerved his bike to avoid a truck that pulled out in front of him.
