Miss Teen talks

Iliana De La Cruz steps down from her yearlong reign as Miss Teen Cayman Islands this weekend.

The vivacious George Town resident says she will be able to look back on her reign with pride and fond memories as she crowns her successor at the Lions Centre.

As well as thanking those who voted for her and the Leos Club of Grand Cayman, Iliana is equally grateful for the support shown her by her family including Merta Day, Rina Ebanks and Sarra Membreno.

Now in the first year of a two year Associates degree in Accountancy at the University College of the Cayman Islands, the John Gray High School graduate is thoroughly enjoying college life.

‘I have to pinch myself when I remember that I won the scholarship through Miss Teen… The course is challenging so I have to be dedicated and I’m enjoying meeting new people. Everyday is a learning experience,’ she added thoughtfully.

Among the many engagements during her reign, Iliana was an honoured guest at a Lions Club of Grand Cayman luncheon and helped organise a successful raffle. She also took part in several of the Leo Club’s beach clean-ups.

The young student intends to further her studies by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting at the University of Wisconsin and hopes to run her own studio one day.

Asked what advice she’ll be giving her successor for the weeks and months to come, Iliana said she would keep it simple.

‘Keep your head up, believe in everything you do and enjoy the whole experience.’
