Chamber postpones trade mission

The Chamber of Commerce trade mission to Houston planned for early October has been postponed until next year due to the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the region.

Houston has accepted thousands of displaced residents from the city of New Orleans and surrounding areas and is assisting with the clean-up and recovery efforts. Several major trade shows and conventions planned for Houston have also been postponed until next year to allow the city to cope with the pressures to help rebuild New Orleans and the lives of its residents, reads a press release from the Chamber.

‘We are disappointed that we had to postpone the trip, but certainly can understand that the priority for Houston must be to assist the region to recover,’ said Chamber President Mr. Joseph Hew.

He said businesses interested in exploring trade links with Houston are still encouraged to register with the Chamber office.

Houston, Texas, Mobile, Alabama, and Panama are destinations that have been identified by the Council to expand trade relations and links. A trade mission is also planned for London, England. The Lord Mayor of London will visit the Cayman Islands from 16-18 October. He is scheduled to address the Chamber at the monthly luncheon on 18 October at the Wharf Restaurant.
