Kids get blown away

The lesson was a breeze for Grade 3 Triple C students on Monday.

The airy event saw students demonstrating that a car with a sail will move farther than one without, a blow dryer can keep a ball in the air, a kite cannot get off the ground without an airlift and how windmills need air to turn.

The students were instructed by teacher Erica Newman to design and construct a device that would move when propelled by air.

To feel and demonstrate the effects of air on objects the students were taken outside to learn all about the way air moves things.

Students learned how energy, in the form of wind, can act on other objects to cause motion.

Students also saw and felt the impact of wind, or moving air, by blowing on their hands, turning on a hair dryer, or using a fan.

Young Kelsey Stutte said she learned air could move lots of objects big or small, heavy or light and Jean-Paul South said he found out air could move lots of things and he enjoyed the class a lot.
