Plant sales brisk

There was no shortage of customers cashing in at the Shade Brigade’s native plant sale last Saturday.

With hundreds of local plants up for grabs, customers made their selections from varieties such as lancewood, mahoe, white buttonwood, sea grape, cabbage tree, ficus, plopnut, ironwood and many more.

Held at the Tennis Club on South Sound Road, the venture was staged to help regreen Cayman after much of the native plants had been destroyed during Hurricane Ivan.

‘The destruction meant a radical loss of shade and beauty, both of which are so important to our quality of life,’ stated one of the groups’s founding members, Eliza Harford in an earlier release.

‘The sale was a major success and all the plants were sold out in one hour,’ said committee member Judy Bullmore.

All the proceeds from the plant sale will go towards tree planting in Grand Cayman.
