The inaugural fall season of little league baseball is coming to a close.
Fall Ball wraps up play this month for the Cayman Islands Little League. Contests, aimed at kids in the 6-15 age group, have taken place at the Field of Dreams facility in George Town.
One of the divisions ending this Saturday, 12 November, at 12noon is T-Ball. Designed for the youngest swingers, the segment focuses on baseball fundamentals as kids hit and field a ball off a tee. Coordinator Cheyenna Stewart states it’s all about fun.
“We have treated Saturdays like a camp which does the same stations each weekend,” Stewart said. “So far we have had two parents versus kids games where the parents bat and could only hit a whiffle ball and the other game the children batted but the parents had to roll the ball to the base to get the kids out.
“I have had numerous comments about how the kids are having so much fun and I am a firm believer that if they have fun learning the basics they will continue with the sport.”
Outside of Saturday’s T-Ball finale, other groups will play as usual this week. AA and AAA action is on Thursday, 10 November and pony division plays on Friday, 11 November (both are slated to take place 5.15pm-6.30pm) with girls softball on Saturday, 12 November (4.30-6.30pm). The other happening is an impromptu talk at the Field of Dreams clubhouse on Thursday at 6.30pm. Dequan Bennett, Brandon DaCosta and Tyler Lee will be speaking to locals about their recent college tryouts in Chicago.
Another happening worthy of note is a two-day mini White Sox camp this Sunday and Monday 13-14 November. The clinic, featuring instructors from the BullSox Training Academy, will have morning and afternoon sessions for local kids.
