Cayman could be the location for a new multi-million dollar addiction treatment centre.
The project is slated to be a 40-bed, five star facility backed by prominent Cayman businessmen, global awareness partner Roger Piggott revealed exclusively to the Compass.
“The project is titled 180 Degrees and has international support from some of the top addiction research physicians and medical profession in UK, France, throughout
North America.
“It is all spearheaded by an individual here on the Island; this project is not a maybe. Blueprints, land acquisition is the next step and I believe that the budget they are working with is in the neighbourhood of $25 (million) to $30 million dollars. There are numerous organisations, joint causes that have thrown their support behind this. This is probably one of the best-kept secrets on the Island at the moment,” he said.
The project has been in the works ‘for quite a period of time’, added Mr. Piggott.
“It will be an internationally-recognised treatment centre for substance abuse, which would include alcohol, drug dependencies and so on.
“It is a state-of-the-art facility for out of country and in country individuals… the package which I saw also showed a smaller centre being erected on Cayman Brac.”
Mr. Piggott’s television production company, Iceman Productions, will serve as international promotion and advertising on a volunteer basis through public service announcements. There are other potential spin-offs from the centre, he noted.
“We are in preliminary discussions about a reality TV series parallel to intervention.”
World Orphans Day
The official announcement of the project is intended to be during World Orphans Day on 14 November. The producer added that he is planning a series of charity events to coincide, which provisionally include a benefit concert involving international and local acts at a town centre venue, a charity nine-hole golf auction, a celebrity-studded Royal Gala at a prominent luxury hotel and other entertainment running from Saturday, 12 November to Monday, 14 November.
“We have signed a multi-year arrangement with the Stars Foundation; my first choice is to bring this event to Cayman,” he said.
The Stars Foundation is a charity that improves the lives of disadvantaged children around the world by supporting organisations that meet their health, education and protection needs. Many prominent individuals are involved with the humanitarian association, including Stella Parton, Buddy Jewell, Clifton Davis and Geoff Bodine.
Mr. Piggott said that negotiations are under way as to venues for the events, which will precede the International Golf Long Drivers Championships, a Cayman venue for which is to be imminently revealed.
He said his promotions and production company Iceman Productions, which produces sports and other television shows for nearly 50 countries and 275 million viewers worldwide, will be moving to Cayman in August.
Representatives are scouting potential studio locations and housing for its staff. The Canadian outfit, which is based in Bradford, Ontario, will also be looking to hire local talent.
“We will need everything from editors, cameramen and marketing professionals. It is evident that the blue chip corporate sector here in the Islands is 100 per cent behind the creation and establishment of an international production company with a proven track record. It is not a matter of if, it is when.
“Many of these [interested] individuals have offshore investments and businesses abroad; they spend a lot of time here or [have] joint residency.
We have been through a series of meetings and more and more is coming together.
Initially we were looking at significant government support to the project but now we will present government with various opportunities as and when they arise, which will benefit tourism internationally.”

So where are they thinking of putting it ? Would be nice to get the whole story.
Over the past 10 years I have had the privilege of working with Roger t have found Mr. Piggott reliable and trusting. On a personal note I’ve seen several of his production on National Television as part as my travel. This Treatment Centre and proposed festivities supporting this venture will bring international exposure and recognition to the Country of The Cayman Islands.
With Roger Piggott at the Helm you know things will get done. I encourage everyone to support this venture to help those in need.
i’m not sure where he gets his facts, but 275 million viewers and no legitimate sponsors or distribution? i wonder why…. if you made this many shows that were so widely accepted, why make them unavailable and cluster a rehab center with golf production, and in the cayman islands? mr gmanbradford, i dont doubt that mr piggott will bring international exposure to the island, but what kind?
He will be hiring local talent like cameramen, and editors? And looking for studio space? That is quite different than his interview in the Compass May 17.
He collects raw footage, and edits, as he is quoted I can assemble my series in your basement. He got this idea, he says, after chatting with the Premier at a party. Need I suggest due diligence?
Its funny to hear these comments and similar ones now that Cayman is in the proverbial deep smelly brown stuff, economically; at least for the time being.
When Cayman was booming, where were the local investment coalitions that could have put together similar development plans as Dart has and kept it all for Caymanians ?
I’ll tell you where they were.
In the boardrooms and barrooms cutting deals with every foreign investor, legitimate or shyster, that came along and making themselves rich off their backs or getting ripped off by the con-men.
The same goes for Cayman’s politicians, for the most part.
And now you expect things to be different ?
Better for Dart to own Cayman than the Chinese Government; that’s for sure.
I checked Google Earth for Iceman productions and there is nothing but a old warehouse and a small house.Where is the major TV production Company.
Why does an addiction treatment center has to be a multi-million dollar project? This UDP and its Leader really believe that we all were born behind a cow behind!
This is the biggest ripoff proposal I ever heard of.get this man out of office and now!
Gaudios Mio!
Where were they,Firey they were busy building cheap unsafe material that put resident’s lives at risk during the hurricane. one house in newlands had to be completely rebuilt. The developer had the nerve to price the house made of sheet rock the same as the concrete made of steel!
They were too busy ripping off their own people. Where are the honest Caymanian Contractors anyway, why don’t we have big companies that can handle building the port? Whap happened? guess they couldn’t deal with the politrics!
Dubai, regarding your comments, are you saying this The UDP and Bush is behind this as well and it also will cost the Caymanian people money are that it has something to do with some kind of Government corruption in an effort to rip the Cayman people off.
If there is anyone who takes this serious I’d be surprized. Please don’t let yourself be conned.Too many people have been hurt already.
