It came suddenly but this is national all-star week in local basketball.
The highlight is a trio of all-star games this Sunday 12 June at the Arts and Recreation Centre at Camana Bay. At 4pm and 6pm comes all-star matches featuring the top players in the PricewaterhouseCoopers Under-16 basketball league.
The boys are up first and feature Dominique Martucce, Rueben Barnes, Jayce Ebanks, Chris Collins, David Scott, Joshua Irby, Tevin Yen, Rhomar Williams, Eric Evans and Aaron Mackie on team blue against Travis Stroup, Anthony Rivers, John Ebanks, Justin Nalty, Philip Webb, Ahren Taylor, Daniel Quinland, Juawon Ebanks, Eric Lopez and Maynor Brooks of team red.
The girls see La-Torae Nixon, Rochelle Gardener, Felecia Connor, Tanesha Richards, Melissa Bridgemohan, Ashley Ebanks, Alicia Turner, Yolanni Manzanares, Guiesha Smith and Khadijah Lewin of team white battle Hannah Parchment, Chloe Powery, Cassandra Jocson, Imani Abdul-Jabbar, April Ebanks, Kayla Mitchell, Kacie Ramos, Jade Wheeler, Khailan O’Connor and Mikayla Hydes of team red.
After the U16 kids play, there is an exhibition contest at 8pm featuring Cayman’s national men’s team against a select team made up of the best players in the national men’s basketball league. The national team features Jorge Ebanks, Jerome Graham-Record, Chad Leslie, Jerome Narcissee, Dwight O’Garro, Samuel O’Garro, Shaad O’Garro, Lloyd Samuels, Deandre Simpson, David Terry, Cory Thompson and Rotando Thompson. On the select side are Collin Anglin, Patrick Barnes, Kenvall Bryan, Jasen Campbell, Omar Clarke, Borislav Djordjic, Vanrick Felix, Christian Ferrer, Kwei General, Brandon Glasgow, Andres Kirchman, Chris Lucas, Kevin Maxwell, Gary McLaughlin, Eric Morata, Antonio Thompson, Ariel Whittaker, Curtis Wilson.
Prior to Sunday’s festivities, the playoffs for the national men’s league have been ongoing. The division one finals saw two games at Camana Bay while division two, featuring the likes of Jason McKenzie of the Rock Hole Fire Ants, saw a pair of match days at the University College of the Cayman Islands.
