Stingrays set for daily tests

The Caledonian Swim Meet is one of the Stingray Swim Club’s full session meets, which is what’s next on their calendar this week.

This means that is provides developing swimmers the chance to test themselves in all the standard swimming events, Other meets are burners or sprints which focus on the shorter distances.

Traditionally this meet does not hold events on the Saturday as swimmers are encouraged to take part in the Flowers Mile – with older more experienced swimmers in the sea, and younger less experienced swimmers walking and supporting.

The Stingray club is committed to providing its members with an array of competitive experiences, both locally and overseas and is cognisant that these events would not be possible without the support of the local business community. The Caledonian meet runs on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday this week, plus the Flowers One Mile Sea Swim on Saturday.

“We are pleased to be annual sponsors of this Stingray swim meet as swimming affords individuals a wide array of health benefits. The Stingray Swim Club not only helps to develop children physically but mentally as well, as the coaches work with each child to help him or her achieve success at their individual levels of ability,” said Bernard McGrath, Caledonian managing director. “We look forward to this weekend’s meet as well as continuing our support of the swim club in the years to come.”

Swimming is a sport which requires hours of commitment and training and provides athletes with international qualifying times which they can use to measure themselves against. The club is encouraging everyone to stop by the Lions Pool during this Caledonian-Stingray Swim Club Meet to cheer on the competing athletes.
