Cayman’s youngest sluggers brought their season to a glimmering end over the weekend.
Last Saturday the Cayman Islands Little League put on the T-ball all-star game. The Field of Dreams facility in George Town would be the site of the action in the morning hours. About 32 kids, ages 5-6, took part in the contest representing eight sponsored teams in the program: Logic, Grand Old House, Creighton Properties, Yellow Pages, HSBC, Cayman Growers, KM Ltd and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Four youngsters hit home runs on the day. They were Jayden Miller, Nathan Morgan, Jaeden Pouchie and Jacobbi Tugman. For the record all of the home runs were inside the park hits that escaped the gloves of infielders and outfielders.
Overseeing the contest was T-ball coordinator Cheyenna Stewart. A coach on the Logic team, Stewart states that the contest was fun for everyone involved.
“It was a great day that was very hot but the kids had a blast,” Stewart said. “T-ball is about where it all begins: with the little players. This year we had approximately 130 children pass through the division separated on eight teams. Without the support of these sponsors we would not be able to provide this program free of charge to the children in Cayman.”
After the match 16 kids were awarded trophies for being most improved and sportsmanship. They were as follows: Jaiden Gilbert and Reyah Stewart (Logic), Riley Corbin and Louie Ch’ng (Grand Old House), Landon Clark and William Powery (KM Ltd), Jonathan Bodden and Harper Barrowman (PWC), Tommy McGregor and Stephanie Menko (HSBC), Jaidaun Narcisse and Gabrielle Ebanks (Yellow Pages), Ryan Cockle and Justin Parsons (Creighton Properties), Aidan McCallister and Amari Howard (Cayman Growers).
