It took him four years of competing but Roshad Goff finally brought home the title.
Roshad was the big winner at Jet Around Cayman for 2011. Riding for Tony’s Toys Racing, Roshad Goff entered and competed in two classes, Expert-Open and the Pro division. Roshad was riding on the number two Kawasaki 300X and was sponsored by Tony’s Toys, Sign Solutions, and Castrol Oil. After travelling around Grand Cayman, Roshad finished in a time of one hour, sixteen minutes and fifty seconds.
After the race Roshad praised his team for the victory.
“This year’s Jet Around was a good one and my Mountain Motorsports/Farthing Racing built Kawasaki Ultra 300x ran flawless as it powered through the seas,” Goff said. “I just want to thank all of my sponsors; Antonio and Glennis Smith, Tony’s Toys Car Boutique, Castrol, Davenport Development, Construction Development Associates, Sign Solutions, Mountain Motorsports and Farthing Racing. I also want to thank God, Jet Around and Cayman Islands Watercraft Association officials for putting on a good event once again, my girlfriend Arie and my team Tony’s Toys Watercraft Racing for all their support and everything they do for me.”
In 2010, Team Guadeloupe came to compete in the race for the first time ever and took home the Pro division title. Four riders competed again this year, but were surprised to be met with a more fierce competition as Caymans riders prepared throughout the year aiming to win back the title. The 2011 race around the island proved to be the largest international jet ski rider participation turnout to date.
Not only did team Guadeloupe return with four riders, but there were also three international racers competing from the United States. Among them was Robert Greenwald of Atlanta, Georgia. Greenwald states the event has grown and will continue to grow.
“Jet Around for me proved to be a fantastic time and an overall enjoyable experience,” Greenwald said. “I will definitely be returning to Cayman to compete in future races and Jet Around Cayman 2012! Upon my return to the States, I will be promoting this event to colleagues as well as my contacts through the international jet ski riders association. I’d like to offer a big thanks to everyone who helped make this event possible and for treating me like family while I was here, especially the McLean family!”
Outside of the race, much fun was had with the beach activities.
A big hit was the entertainment section featuring various Cayman dancers. Groups such as Hype Squad dancers, Cali B, GHL Ladies represented by Flava and the Yard Star Dancers hyped up the crowd with dancehall moves. Another smash hit was Cayman’s new aspiring hip hop group Underground While Above Ground with live mixing on stage by Unity Entertainment and DJ Flex.
From there the Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation hosted their second annual beach tournament. The competition saw a coed four versus four format with a minimum of one female per side. Teams were split up into the A (professional) and B (amateur) divisions. Taking home top prize in the A ranks was team All-Stars consisting of Jessica Wolfenden, Richard Campbell, Keeble Knight and Duncan Hamann. First prize in the B division was team Hot Chocolate consisting of Haley Wolfenden, Davison Ruwende, Nchane Jere and Fareed Hosein.
Party Land created a unique and wonderful experience for kids with a bouncing castle, balloon animals and photo opportunities with Dora the Explorer or Barney. The Snack Shack Mobile concession provided food and snacks for the crowds.
Marquee sponsor LIME created their own frenzy with their 20×20 fun tent featuring Top-Up, product specials and games.
