Team Special Olympics Cayman Islands started out well at the Special Olympics in Athens, Greece.
There were personal bests in every event competed. Swimmer Andrew Smilley was the first athlete to medal with a silver and personal best in the 800 metres freestyle.
Track athlete Matthew Ebanks ran a scorching 56.16 seconds in his 400m preliminary. Both bocce athletes rolled extremely well. Athletes Andrew Hayles and Matthew Ebanks placed second in their 200m heats with times of 27.93secs and 25.40secs respectively. Cindy Whittaker and Shanike Ebanks competed in their 100m prelims on the second day.
