Police: ‘Public figure’ being investigated in alleged assault on woman

RCIPS

A woman suffered minor injuries early Saturday in an alleged assault involving an individual whom police described as a “public figure”.

In a brief statement issued Saturday afternoon, police said it was reported just after 12.30am that the woman had been assaulted at a licensed liquor establishment on West Bay Road.

In an earlier statement, police had described the individual as a senior government member, but issued a correction shortly afterwards, stating instead that the person is a “public figure in the Cayman Islands”.

As of Saturday afternoon, police said, the alleged suspect had not been questioned, arrested or charged.

The RCIPS did not release the name of the public figure nor the name of the establishment at which the alleged assault occurred.
