A 43-year-old man from Bodden Town was arrested late Monday afternoon after he crashed his vehicle into a police car and a building in George Town while trying to flee from officers.
According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, an officer on vehicle patrol on Godfrey Nixon Way “had cause to stop and speak to members of the public”. While the officer’s car was stopped, a man at the location got into a vehicle and started to drive away.
He drove the vehicle, a white bus, in what police described as “a reckless manner”, striking the police officer’s vehicle and then crashing into the nearby A-Z Minimart.

The driver then tried to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended and arrested on suspicion of several offences, including damage to property and DUI.
Witnesses said other vehicles were also damaged in the incident. The officer in the police car was uninjured, according to an RCIPS spokesman.
