Caymanian sisters Alison, 19, and Sarah Jackson, 20, opened their swim season at the 2021 Colorado Mesa Intermountain Shootout, held 1-2 Oct.

Alison, a sophomore at the University of Northern Colorado, the same school her sister attends, contributed to a victory in the 200 metre freestyle relay, where she swam the opening leg in 24.56 seconds.

Alison also competed in the 200m free, the 50m free and the 400m free relay, the latter race where she helped claim another first place in 3:29.28 seconds.

“It was great to race again and see where I’m at so far in the season,” Alison told the Cayman Compass. “The best thing was being [able] to race and compete like normal even while COVID is still around.”

Her older sister, who is in her junior year, also hit the pool for several races, placing 28th overall in the 100m free, 15th in the 50 free and eighth in the 200m free relay.

“For our first meet of the season we came together as a team and did really well, beating seven out of eight women’s teams, placing second,” Sarah told the Compass.

“Personally, I was super happy with my performance as I’ve been struggling with some injuries so just being able to compete was amazing.”

Alison and Sarah are expected to compete again Saturday, 9 Oct,. in a dual meet against New Mexico State.
