Caymanian national swimmer Jordan Crooks took three podium places in his collegiate debut over the weekend during a dual meet against the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

Crooks, a freshman at the University of Tennessee, took the sprint double, winning 50-yard freestyle in 20.92 seconds and then the 100-yard free in 45.66. He also took second in the 200-yard medley relay, helping his team earn a time of 1:30.40.

“It was great to race again, especially with a new team,” Crooks told the Cayman Compass. “I’m looking forward to the next competition.”

The now UT Volunteer currently holds the Cayman Islands national record for both the 50 metre and 100m backstroke. Earlier this year, Crooks clocked 22.97 in the 50m freestyle long course at the UANA qualifier, .56 seconds behind the national record that’s held by three-time Olympian Brett Fraser.

North is expected to compete in a meet against North Carolina State University on 15-16 Oct.
