Public Health announced Thursday that teachers, police, fire officers, prison and Customs and Border Control staff are now eligible to get their COVID-19 vaccination boosters.

Also, anyone aged 40 and over can begin getting their booster shots from Monday, 8 Nov.

Up until now, only those aged 50 and over, and the clinically vulnerable, were eligible to receive a booster, or third, vaccine dose.

In its announcement, Public Health reminded that those getting booster shots must have  received their second dose at least six months beforehand. Those eligible to receive their booster should bring along their vaccination card or digital certificate showing proof of their second dose and a government-issued photo ID.

“The public is reminded not to attend vaccine clinics if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms in interest of the safety of staff and the fellow community,” the statement noted.As of Wednesday, 3 Nov., 4,654 people had received booster shots, accounting for 24% of those aged 50 and over.

There have been a total 116,075 COVID-19 vaccinations administered, with 80% of the estimated population receiving their first shot, and 77% completing the two-dose course.

Vaccination clinics are open throughout the week at various locations, including on Wednesday and Friday afternoons at the Aston Rutty Centre in Cayman Brac.

The number of active cases of COVID in Cayman, as of 8am on Tuesday, the latest data publicly available, was 1,299.
