Cayman’s Customs and Border Control service, together with other enforcement agencies, held a joint operation the George Town port, which focussed on both imported containerised and non-containerised cargo.
However the results of the operation, nor the trigger for it, have been made public.
CBC, in a statement to the Cayman Compass in response to queries, said on Tuesday no further information will be disclosed on the operation.
“CBC does not want to comprise any future operations and as such will not comment further on Friday’s operation,” the brief emailed statement said.
In an announcement over the weekend, CBC advised the public that it had conducted a high visibility, joint agency risk based operation from Friday, 19 Nov. to 3:15am Saturday 20 Nov. at the George Town port.
“The operation reflects CBC’s strategic and operational mandate whereby it concentrates on risks and carries out necessary procedures to assess areas of elevated risks,” that statement said.
The CBC-led operation also included officers from various CBC sections, their K9 and narcotics sections, as well as officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman department.
“CBC recognised the importance for all parties to work in unison to ensure the operation took place as quickly and efficiently as possible while maintaining the required safety protocols for all agencies involved,” the statement added.
