Junior swimmers hit the pool over the weekend for the Mike Lockwood Memorial Meet at the newly renovated Lions Aquatic Centre.
The two-day event, held on 20-21 Nov., was organised by Stingray Swim Club. During the meet, the Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association introduced new team John Gray Swim Club.
“We reached out to CIASA, and we are now John Gray Swim Club,” Ryan Mushin, senior swim instructor at the Department of Sports told the Cayman Compass.
The new club, which Mushin manages, competed for the first time during the meet against SSC, Camana Bay Aquatic Club and Seven Mile Swimmers.
Stingray head coach David Pursley said the event is an opportunity to evaluate his swimmers as well as the competition.

Calling the meet a “good test”, Pursley said the event offered the swimmers an opportunity “to see where we’re at because we have the Coconut Cup coming up in two weeks, and that’s where most of the swimmers will be expecting their best times”.
He added the competition pointed to “what we need to get right”.
The meet comes just ahead of the 2021 Junior Pan American Games, where swimmers Jillian Crooks, Jordan Crooks, Kyra Rabess and Raya Embury-Brown will be competing from 27 Nov.-5 Dec.
