Two more people have died of COVID-19-related causes, bringing the total number of deaths to 14, Public Health officials reported on Tuesday evening.
No further details relating to the deaths, such as ages, vaccination status or whether the patients were suffering from other medical conditions, were included in the latest coronavirus update from the department.
In that update, interim Chief Medical Officer Dr. Autilia Newton reported 440 new cases of COVID-19, including 430 from the community and 10 among travellers.
As of midnight Tuesday, there were six patients with COVID in hospital, including three new admissions.
According to the update, of 838 PCR tests conducted since Monday, 249 were positive, while 191 positive cases were found among lateral flow tests.
Since Cayman began tracking Omicron variant cases last month, 1,936 confirmed or probable cases of Omicron have been reported.
Earlier on Tuesday, Public Health revised its isolation and quarantine restrictions in Cayman, as Omicron became the most dominant strain in the community.
The latest results bring the number of reported active cases in Cayman to 3,559, with 3,309 of those being linked to community transmission. This means that 5.01% of the population currently has the virus.
The total number of cases recorded in the Cayman Islands since the start of the pandemic is 11,666.
Sister Islands update
As of midnight Tuesday, 17 new cases were reported in the Sister Islands. To date, there have been 254 total cases recorded in the Sister Islands, with 139 having recovered.
Out of the total number of cases in the Sister Islands, 152 were fully vaccinated, eight were partially vaccinated, and 92 were unvaccinated and two were unsure, according to the Public Health update.
Vaccinations
By Tuesday, 59,055 people (83% of the estimated population of 71,106) had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while, 57,526 individuals (80%) had completed the two-dose course.
Additionally, 18,285 people (representing 25% of the total population) had received a third or booster dose as of Tuesday.

How can they say its a covid related death but fail to confirm “whether the patients were suffering from other medical conditions” or not? Suppose they had internal bleeding? Suppose they had a stroke? That’s not covid related!
Did they die from fever, cough or nasal congestion? I highly doubt it, and therefore they didn’t die from a covid related death.
This is exactly why I believe that the worldwide death toll is so high: the casualty numbers are inflated, and people have been taught to fear it because you die WITH covid, not FROM covid. No one is *afraid* of catching the flu. You could be covid positive, but you die from a heart attack.. there’s a big difference
I agree. The article doesn’t even tell when they died.
Public health has continually refused to divulge all these statistics. They don’t even give a reason for refusing to do so. Why? Is this some national security secret?
Also, the above article quotes Dr. Newton reporting that 1,936 cases of “ probable or confirmed“ cases of the Omicron variant have been reported. However, four days ago she stated that only 89 cases were actually confirmed. Why is there such a lag in confirming these cases?
All of this lack of information and transparency lends credence to the articles reported in yesterdays Compass where many people were pointing out the confusion and conflicting information that they were getting from Public Health and other supposedly knowledgeable officials.
Is it any wonder why tourists are reluctant to return to this type of situation?
