Anyone familiar with the work of painter and sculptor Yonier Powery will be aware of the man’s talent and the extraordinary visions brought to life through his pieces.
The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands is offering a chance for children 8-11 years old to take a class with Powery, over two dates, where they will learn to craft a coral reef from clay.
On day one (6 Aug.) from 10am-1pm, the students will learn ceramics basics and how to build their reefs. Then, on day two (20 Aug.), again, from 10am-1pm, they will finish their creations with glazing.

The wonderful thing about Powery is his limitless imagination and affinity for the underwater world, so no doubt he will encourage the children to be as inventive and creative as they can be.
This will be a fantastic experience for kids, spending time learning from an artist whose works can be found in art galleries and private collections.
The ceramics class is $85 per student, which incudes all instruction and materials. NGCI members receive 10% off. Email [email protected] or call 945-8111.
