Free chess club resumes weekly games on 17 Sept.

Chess is a game for all ages to play.

After the impressive showing from the Cayman Islands national chess team at the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad in India, held 27 July-10 Aug., it is hoped that others will show interest in the ‘Royal Game’.

To that end, the Cayman Chess Club will resume its weekly games at the George Town Public Library on Saturday, 17 Sept. at 11 am. It is free to attend the gatherings, which will be subsequently held every Saturday. A wide range of ages are involved, and anyone who wants to learn more about chess, or improve their skills, is welcome. As an example, 13-year-old Laia Swaminathan of Cayman International School was one of the local contingent that competed in India.

Said Shaun Tracey, president of the Cayman Islands Chess Federation, after the team performed well at the Olympiad,“We hope to build upon this, and develop the sport further in the Cayman Islands.”
