East End United FC will be taking on East End Lions in the Cayman Islands Football Association Under 23 Men’s Summer FA Cup finals set for Sunday, 9 Oct.

East End United come to the finals after defeating Academy SC in their semi-final encounter on Sunday, 2 Oct. at the Cayman Centre for Excellence field.

United, which trains under coaches Derron Goulab and Andrew Browning Jr, advanced to the finals after edging Academy 5-4 on penalties after fulltime ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the second semi-final match, the Lions, coached by Barry Tibbetts, earned their way to the finals by battering Roma United SC 6-0, which included a hat trick from striker Jeremiah Solomon, who scored in the 10th, 66th and 87th minutes.

Dion Brandon, CIFA vice president and former coach for the East End football programmes, told the Cayman Compass that he was pleased to see the two teams within the district reach a championship game.

“We are coming from a state where we struggled… and within the last two years we were able to put together some top-quality teams within the club at both the youth level and senior level,” he said. “The boys have stepped up and put in a lot of work and it’s really paying off for them right now.”

The finals will take place at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, starting at 6 pm. Brandon has high expectations for a quality game.

“I expect a very exciting match,” he said. “They are both competitive teams with a lot of aggressive and talented youngsters on them. I encourage the public to come out and watch and give their support.”
