A Caymanian man wanted for electronic-based harassment charges was a no-show in the Summary Court earlier today, as he remains detained in Belize facing a charge of rape.
Bryan Stephen Edward Gentle faces one count of using an ICT network to abuse/annoy/harass; however, no progress could be made during Tuesday’s hearing.
“The last information that we received is that he is still in Belize where he is facing charges of a serious nature,” said his attorney Carina Clare. “Given this fact it might prudent for the Crown to review this file with the view of taking a certain course.”
Gentle, 49, who is also said to be a resident of San Ignacio, Belize, was arrested in June this year, after a 29-year-old woman from the same region reported he raped her in a car.
“Base on our last checks, it was clear that he is out of the jurisdiction. However, we have not been able to make contact with authorities to determine if he has in fact been charged and the stage of any subsequent proceedings,” said prosecutor Gavin Dixon.
Dixon agreed to have the file reviewed and the matter is set to return to court 22 Nov.
