The annual One Dog At A Time fundraiser, Scoobyluminations, is scheduled for 15 Dec. from 6-9:30pm at Rackam’s Waterfront Bar & Grill in George Town.
The local animal charity looks for the public to come out and support the event financially, or to bring food, toys and other gifts for dogs presently without a forever home. As ever, Santa will be be arriving by sea sleigh pulled by underwater ‘reindeer’, and all guests will have a chance to get pictures with the jolly old elf. Raffle tickets will be on sale, and everyone can meet some of the adorable puppies up for adoption.
This has been a particularly hard year for the nonprofit, which has had an unprecedented number of adult dogs and puppies left (literally and figuratively) at its doorstep.
In October, Paula Blane of ODAAT spoke of the overwhelming influx of animals they had received.
“We just cannot keep up, with either space, fosters, finances and time,” she said. “We’re at breaking point. Anyone willing to do a fundraiser for us, big or small… anything will help. Vet bills are now over $10,000 a month, and you can only imagine how much food we’re getting through.”
Scoobyluminations is one of ODAAT’s main fundraisers for the year, and so organisers are appealing to people to come out and give what they can.
“The animals deserve so much love and happiness,” Blane said. “To see them finding fosters or, ideally, forever homes would certainly make our Christmas.”
Entrance to Scoobyluminations is free. For more information about One Dog At A Time, visit www.odaat.ky or its Facebook page.
