Lauren Knight, deputy chief officer of the Portfolio of the Civil Service, said “outstanding contributions and moments of magic” had been created by those “civil service superstars”.

In his speech, Deputy Governor Franz Manderson said: “As a civil service, our job today, every day, is to work hard for the government of the day.

“How do we do that? By performing outstanding work. And the 12 nominees here this evening have done some absolutely outstanding work.

“They’re passionate about their work. They don’t work to their job description. They go out of their way every day to make lives better.”

He said it was extremely difficult to choose the employee of the year but he selected “an amazing civil servant who will make us all proud”.

Gloria McField-Nixon, chief officer of the Portfolio of the Civil Service, on announcing the award winner congratulated all the nominees.

“Their contributions and the way that they conduct themselves every day… has helped us to make lives better and it’s helped the civil service collectively to stand tall,” she said.

She said their contributions come from diverse areas of operation within the civil service.

“The thing that they all have in common is not just the dedication to professionalism, not just tremendous passion, not just integrity that’s beyond reproach, but they understand why they do the things that they do,” she said.

“Each of them and the stories that they have shared, have talked about their day to day duties, but have connected to a larger purpose.

“They understand how their work specifically can make lives better.”

Among those attending the event were Governor Jane Owen, Premier Wayne Panton, Speaker of the House of Parliament Katherine Ebanks-Wilks, Deputy Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, Attorney General Samuel Bulgin, and Lareta Mack, employee of the year 2021.
