Classes have been suspended at Prospect Primary School following a report of a gas leak.
Cayman Islands Fire Service officers at the scene have checked the school and given the all-clear, according to Mark Ray, director of the Department of Education Services.
Although all the students have been determined to be “safe and well”, Ray said, “out of an abundance of caution”, the department and the Ministry of Education had decided to suspend classes and send the students home.
Earlier, the students were temporarily evacuated after the leak was detected.
Ambulance and Fire Service trucks attended the scene following the report.
Classes will resume on Monday, Ray said.
The gas-leak scare at the school comes just days after a house in North Sound Estates was badly damaged in an as-yet unexplained explosion on Monday, 4 June.
Police on Thursday said they had ruled out any suspicious circumstances relating to the explosion, in which four people were injured. One man remains in hospital following the blast.
