Police say they have completed the initial investigations at the site of a Newlands House that exploded on Monday, 5 June and are cautioning members of the public not to venture onto the site.
“The police cordon has now been released. However, the public is advised that the Planning Department has deemed the structure where the incident occurred as UNSAFE to enter or occupy,” said a spokesperson from the RICPS.
“As such, persons are to avoid entering the property.”
The cause of the blast is still unknown.
Father of two, Rex Watler, 44, was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital in critical condition.
On Friday, after police officially reopened the road, neighbours whose homes were damaged by the explosion were given the all-clear to being making repairs.
The family that was residing in the now severely damaged home has been moved into a hotel for the time being.
A source close to the family said they are looking for an apartment.
Meanwhile, a shopping cart has been set up at Foster’s Countryside, labelled ‘Donation for Watler family’, to accept food and other supplies for the affected residents.
