After two days of treatment, a 55-year-old visitor succumbed to injury on Friday following a water-related incident, police said.
The man, whose identity has not been released, died at Cayman Islands Hospital.
According to a police spokesperson, the man sustained his injury as a result of the near-drowning incident on Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 3:25pm on Wednesday, according to an RCIPS press release issued on Friday, officers and other emergency services were dispatched to the West Bay Road where it was reported that the man was pulled from the water after showing signs of distress.
After being brought to shore, police said a civilian at the scene immediately began doing CPR which was taken over by Cayman Islands Fire Service personnel.
“The man was later transported to the hospital by ambulance where he was being treated by the medical staff, however, after two days of treatment, he succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased by the attending doctor on today, 21 July,” police said.
The RCIPS thanked the members of the public and the emergency services personnel who assisted with lifesaving efforts, and issued condolences to the family of the deceased man.
