Bryan Welcome of George Town has entered a not guilty plea to a single charge of murder in relation to the death of Omar Ryan.
Welcome, 41, is alleged to struck and killed Ryan with his car on 8 July.
According to police, in the minutes leading up to Ryan’s death he and Welcome were engaged in an argument in Bodden Town, which quickly escalated and became physical – ending with Ryan being hit by the car several miles away in George Town after he and his alleged killer both drove off.
During a brief Grand Court appearance, via video link from Northward Prison, on Friday, 21 July, Welcome listened as his attorney Dennis Brady put the court on notice of a pending bail application.
“The position is that once all the relevant disclosure has been served, we will then be in a position to make a formal bail application,” said Brady.

A two-week judge-alone trial has been set for 20 Nov., and Welcome has been remanded into custody pending the results of his upcoming bail application.
Ryan’s death has been marked with sadness and shock in both Cayman and Jamaica, with many residents here telling the Compass he was a kind and easy-going person who did not deserve his fate.
