The start of the Cayman Islands Football Association 2023-24 season has been postponed yet again, this time following a weekend of rain and thunderstorms, which left several fields flooded.
The Ed Bush Stadium in West Bay was scheduled to host both the women’s and men’s Charity Shield fixtures on Sunday, 22 Oct., featuring Elite SC vs. Academy SC in the women’s season opener, prior to Scholars International SC taking on Academy SC for the men.
“Due to bad weather, the Executive Committee has decided to postpone today’s Charity Shield matches,” CIFA stated in an email on Sunday.
This marks the third time the start of the senior domestic season has been pushed back. The matches were originally scheduled for the end of September and reset for 8 Oct., but following controversy involving the new transfer rules, CIFA was forced to reschedule for this past Sunday.
CIFA has not yet set a new date for the curtain-raiser, only telling the teams that they will be informed of the new schedule “soon”.
