A 20-year-old West Bay man was bitten by a police dog while resisting arrest, following a domestic incident at an address off Selkirk Drive in George Town, police have said.
The man, who was treated and released from hospital following the Friday evening incident, has since been charged with two counts of damage to property, and one count each of causing fear or provocation of violence, criminal trespass, and resisting arrest.
Police, in a statement Monday on the incident, said officers had responded to a report of a domestic incident off Selkirk Drive where it was reported that a man had approached the residence of a woman he knew and behaved aggressively.
He was also allegedly threateningly towards her, and damaged property at the location.
The man, police said, had fled prior to the arrival of the police.
It was while conducting checks in the area that officers spotted a man nearby who fit the description of the suspect.
Police said officers approached the man, but he ignored their questions and attempted to flee. This led to a short foot pursuit.
The man, police said, was cornered by the officers and became aggressive and resisted attempts to detain him.
A police K-9 was deployed and the man was bitten, after which officers arrested him.
He was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment and subsequently discharged into police custody.
The suspect appeared in court Monday, and was bailed to appear again on 3 Nov.
