The Department of Environmental Health has completed its two-week winter bulk waste collections across all three islands.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the DEH said it made its last bulk waste collection on 15 Dec., and any discarded items left on roadsides will be considered as having been illegally dumped.

“The recently concluded special clean up exercise was scheduled to facilitate the transition to the Annual Bulk Waste Collection which takes place in May, ahead of the Hurricane Season, DEH director Richard Simms said in the statement.

“Any bulk waste placed on the curbside and/or empty lot will be considered illegal dumping/littering and should be reported. We thank residents for their participation and complying with the guidelines provided.”

The DEH said individuals should make arrangement to transport any additional bulk waste to the landfills.

The George Town Landfill operates from 7am to 5pm on weekdays, until 1pm on Saturdays and is closed on Sundays. The landfill drop-off facility at the gate will remain accessible to the public and small vehicles 24 hours per day, the DEH noted.

It said the penalty for illegal dumping and littering is a maximum sentence of six months in prison and a fine of up to $500.

It urged people to report any illegal dumping to the DEH on 949-6696 or to the police.
