The start of the new year is a time for reflection, as well as setting aspirations for the year ahead.
New Year’s resolutions are a large feature of this and many around the world use this time as an opportunity to chart personal journeys or milestones they wish to hit as the year progresses. We reached out to some familiar faces in the community to get their New Year’s resolutions for 2024. Here’s what they had to say:
Governor Jane Owen – “[My] New Year’s resolution is to learn to play pickleball.”
Opposition Leader Roy McTaggart – “I quit making New Year resolutions many years ago, I could never keep them!”
Deputy Governor Franz Manderson – “In the coming year, I resolve to promote and proactively prioritise preventive health measures. I will focus on encouraging regular health check-ups, maintaining a well-balanced diet, and engaging in consistent exercise. Together, we’ll strive to build a foundation of well-being, ensuring a healthier and more resilient future for all.”
Cayman Islands Tourism Association President Troy Leacock- “Next year I will be focusing on balance and health. I resolve to improve my work/life balance and establish healthy habits for exercise and nutrition.”
Department of Environment director of research and assessment Tim Austin – “I want to take better care of myself and my health, to run at least 120 runs in excess of 3 miles (10 miles a month) and complete the Cayman Half Marathon in under 1 hour, 45 minutes!”
Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce CEO Wil Pineau – “Pray more. Love more. Give more. Work smarter. Eat less.”
Cayman Islands 2023 marathon women’s winner Oddy Grullon – “As a New Year resolution, I would like to ask God for health so I can keep running thousands of miles. I would like to help and serve as inspiration to other women to speak out and not to be afraid to live the darkness and fight for themselves. I would like to set another challenge for a local charity. I would like to be a better human, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and continue to grow spiritually and mentally, and maybe win Cayman Marathon again.”
Michael Myles, managing director, Inspire Cayman – “My New Year’s resolution is to inspire all of our students to becoming their better selves.”
