Grammy and Dove award-winning vocalist Guy Penrod returns to Cayman to perform live for the 7th annual gospel fest concert to be held on Sunday, 31 Dec., at First Baptist Church

The renowned American gospel singer was the first artist to be featured at the annual gospel concert back in 2016.

“From the first time Guy Penrod came in 2016, so many people [have] been requesting him to come back to the Cayman Islands,” said Noel Williams, event organiser and director of Williams Productions company, which is hosting the concert.

“So, here we are, seven years later, he is back, and a lot of people are excited to see him and those that missed him the first time, they will get an opportunity to see him at this concert,” he said.

Penrod is widely recognised for his work as lead singer of the internationally acclaimed American southern gospel vocal group Gaither Vocal Band for 14 years. After that, he ventured into his solo career, releasing ‘Breathe Deep’. He has since produced albums, including ‘Christmas’, ‘The Best of Guy Penrod’ (certified platinum by the RIAA), ‘Hymns’, ‘Classics’ and ‘Blessed Assurance’.

His album, ‘The Best of Guy Penrod’, reached No. 92 on the Billboard 200 charts on 6 Aug. 2005.

Among his notable achievements, Penrod was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2011 and won ‘Soloist of the Year’ from the National Quartet Convention in 2013. He was also inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame alongside the Gaither Vocal Band.

Penrod, a father of eight children, is a repeat guest at The Grand Ole Opry.

“Having an artist of this caliber perform in the Cayman Islands appeals to a wide cross-section of Cayman’s Christian community and persons from all walks of life,” Williams said, adding, “It reinforces spiritual and moral values that we cherish as a nation.”

He said, “This annual concert aims to inspire and awaken people’s relationships with Jesus Christ while simultaneously providing high quality entertainment.”

The end-of-year concert will also feature local artists, including the Williams Quintet, Abbijoe Green, Darnelle and Friends. Flavia Beswick, the finalist at the Jamaica Gospel Fest who won Best Arrangement and Best Songwriter for her entry song, called ‘Center of my Life’ will also be performing.

Williams also confirmed Penrod will be performing for residents in Cayman Brac for the first time on 1 Jan., at the West End Seaside Park, starting 8:30pm.

Each year, the Williams Productions company provides sponsorship to charities, such as the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, Loud Silent Voices, and The Good Samaritan Food Bank. This year, the company will be partnering with Jasmine and the Cayman Islands Early Childhood Association to support their crucial work.

Gates open at 6:30pm with showtime at 7:30pm. Tickets for the 31 Dec. concert are $25 pre-sold, and $35 at the gate. Ticket outlets are Funky Tang’s, Christian Enlightenment Centre and Cayman Islands SDA Conference.
