A man and woman have been arrested in connection to a spate of commercial burglaries which occurred during the Christmas weekend, and now remain in custody.
In a statement issued by the RCIPS on Thursday, 28 Dec., a spokesperson said the suspects, a 30-year-old George Town man and a 41-year-old West Bay woman, were arrested in relation to four of nine reported burglaries.
“[They] appeared before the court yesterday, Wednesday, 27 December, and have been remanded to [prison],” advised police in its statement.
Police told the Compass the two had been arrested separately and the burglaries they are suspected of committing were not connected.
The break-ins occurred at restaurants and bars along Seafarers Way, in George Town, and extended to parts of West Bay Road, eventually leading into West Bay.
During one of the break-ins, which occurred at the GT Outpost and Rackham’s next door, a thief was spooked by the owners of GT Outpost, who spoke to him via a CCTV which is equipped with two way mics – prompting him to flee on foot with an undisclosed quantity of cash.
In an unrelated incident, the night before, at nearby Cayman Cabana, four men were recorded on CCTV raiding the bar, stealing liquor, food, cash, and Christmas decorations.

Pictures of the maskless suspects have since been posted to social media by the bar owners. As of publication time, police had not provided any updates on whether arrests had been made in connection to this matter.
“This seams to be an unfortunate cost of doing business and, don’t get me wrong, we are doing our part to help secure business and protect our staff, but there is only so much that we can do,” said Brice Reid, operations manager of the Sandbar restaurant and bar, which has been burgled multiple times and robbed twice.
With the New Year’s celebrations swiftly approaching, police are calling on business owners to be more vigilant and to take whatever additional steps available to them to secure their premises.
“Always ensure windows and doors are locked at the end of the night, that money is removed and items of value, such as electronics (laptops/phones), are secured,” warned police in a statement. “Ensure CCTV cameras are operational and angled correctly to cover key areas of the premises.”
Anyone with information about any of the burglaries are encouraged to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
