Man hits cop car in escape attempt, held on gun and drugs charges

A 29-year-old Bodden Town man who hit a police car in an attempt to escape capture has been arrested for drugs and firearm possession.

He was arrested Wednesday after a quantity of ganja and cocaine was found in his vehicle, according to a press release issued on Thursday.

Prior to his arrest, the man allegedly discarded a firearm.

The incident happened shortly after 3:50pm.

Police said officers had cause to stop a vehicle travelling along Pedro Castle Road, but when they signalled to the driver he instead attempted to evade the officers.

He collided with a marked police vehicle and drove onto a nearby property where officers observed him throw a bag from his vehicle.

Officers subsequently recovered the bag, which contained a firearm.

The man was located and detained on a road off Pedro Castle Road.

During a search of the vehicle, an undisclosed quantity of drugs was recovered.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ganja with intent to supply, and possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

He remains in custody as investigations continue.
